International Femboy Day is a relatively new celebration, the earliest mention of a dedicated day being around 2020. Femboy Day is a chance for those who choose to express themselves in a feminine manner to celebrate their individual beauty and creativity. The day is celebrated annually on April 10th.
Femboys gain enjoyment in expressing themselves in a feminine manner. It could be through language, dress, make-up, mannerisms and body language and in all likelihood, combinations thereof. Femboys are often, but by no means exlusively, slender with an ectomorph body shape. They generally dislike body hair and go to great lengths to remove this. Femboys also tend to avoid developing muscle mass and aim for a more neutral feminine body. Of course that doesn’t mean a rippled stomach or some grabbable curves aren’t welcome because they most certainly are.
As the name suggests, most femboys are AMAB and continue being male their whole lives, but there is a growing movement among the transgender community as people look for tribes they fit with; femboys and transgender girls are often closely aligned. Being open and inclusive, femboys mind less about the physical characteristics of a person and more the way they feel and behave. It should also be noted that the term femboy is also fairly relaxed and the community is welcoming to anyone who feels they fit, is curious or simply on a journey.
Femboys aren’t necessarily gay, and just a glance over a few polls on community-driven sites suggest most consider themselves bisexual or pansexual. Generally speaking, femboys enjoy wearing feminine clothing, be it form-fitting vests or big baggy hoodies. Fishnets, thigh highs and thongs feature a lot in a femboy’s wardrobe along with chokers, cropped tops, mini-skirts and bodysuits.
Japanese animations also feature prominently with many femboys dressing up as their favourite characters. Cosplay is popular and the characters in anime are often androgynous both in appearance and sexuality. Astolfo from the Fate/Apocrypha series is probably the most popular and has spawned countless cosplay sets and memes.
While International Femboy Day might be in its infancy, femboys most certainly are not and many would argue their tribe has been around for decades. Along with many other LGBTQ+ groups, femboys have adopted a striped flag for themselves – seven coloured horizontal stripes (pinks, blue and white) representing feminine behaviours, aesthetics, masculinity and non-binary identities.
So on 10th April, find your favourite thong, slide into some fishnets, pull up the socks and say a big uWu; it’s International Femboy Day. :3
